Green opening date

The green will open on Thursday 17 April.

Club coaching day 3 May

We have seen a huge take-up by our members of the offer of a coaching day. On 3 May, some 30 NLBC members will benefit from the teaching by Hertfordshire coaches, which will be delivered at levels appropriate for each individual.

The coaching is running from 10:00 till 14:30 and will require all six rinks during that time. The green will be available for use by members from 14:30 onwards.

Bring your friends and family in May

All are invited to our free taster sessions on Sundays in May from 10:00 to 12:00. If you have friends or family who would like to try out the sport, please bring them along to join the free taster sessions. Four rinks are booked for the taster sessions, the remaining two are open for our members to roll up. If you are willing to help as tutor on the day, please give us a shout.

Bowls Big Weekend

On 25 May, we are joining Bowls England in their country-wide recruitment drive. The club will be open for everybody from 10:00 to 17:00. We are planning to bring out the BBQ and offer our guests some freshly cooked food during the day. We have received balloons and bunting from Bowls England and will join into the country-wide bowls fun. Again, friends, family, neighbours, all invited! We will need a number of helpers on the day, so again, give us a shout if you are available.

Club open to general public

Every Wednesday and Friday afternoon, the club is open to the general public to join our roll-ups, another great opportunity to introduce new people to the club and the game.

Roll-ups on Monday and Wednesday from 10:00

The green will now be open from 10:00 on Monday and Wednesday for organised roll-ups. You will be able to book competitive games on the online diary from 10:00 on those days.

Turning the green on Monday morning

If you roll up on Monday morning, the first thing that you need to do is turn the green. Guidance will be given how to do this.

On Wednesday morning, the marks need to be changed to the second colour. If you are the first to roll up, please change the marks.

On Friday morning, the marks need to be changed to the third colour. Again, whoever is the first person on the green that day will be expected to do this job.

We will pin up the list of days and required colours on the outside of the club so that everyone knows what colour the green is supposed to be on. We thank everyone in advance for their support in this. It is done in the interest of the green as moving the marks will ensure that usage is spread out and no inconvenient runs can form.

Green team has precedence on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday

On Tuesday, Thursday and Friday morning the greenkeeper has precedence over the green until 12pm.

However, if there is no work being carried out by the green team then members will be able to access the green in the morning. Or, in other words, if you are rolling up in the morning on these days, and the green team needs to work on the green, you will have to stop playing.

Green concerns to Ivor and Dave

If members have any issues regarding the green, please do not approach the people working on the green. Your concerns should be exclusively addressed to Ivor Seddon or Dave Dawson.

We have a new green cutter, Josh Freeborn. Josh is a local gardener. He has been trained by Chris, our greenkeeper, who is pleased with Josh’s work on the green.

Rink diary to book matches

All bookings for competitive matches are to be made on the digital rink diary:  www.northlondonrinkdiary.co.uk. You can access the diary via our website.

Trialling ‘no pushers’

This season we are trialling playing without pushers, as they do in Leamington. Our greenkeeper recommends this action to protect the green.

Throughout the season the board of management would like to know your thoughts regarding this trial. Just approach any of the board members with your feedback – which is most gratefully received on any and all topics!
