North London Bowling Club

Founded in 1891 the club enjoys one of the loveliest locations of any London bowls club. The club owns and maintains its green and clubhouse through the voluntary efforts of is members. The bowling season runs from mid April until the end of September.


Membership stands at around seventy people, with half that number being active bowlers. The club welcomes all new and experienced bowlers who wish to try out or continue participation in this enjoyable sport. New bowlers will receive coaching from experienced members and can learn at there own pace. Members can access the green at any time after midday and play for as long as they wish. There is a probationary period for new members before they are issued there own keys.


There are plenty of opportunities for new and experienced bowlers to play at the different levels at which they feel comfortable.


Organised "roll ups" (where teams are picked from those who turn up in the day) take place on Wednesday and Friday afternoons. There is a club league competition on Tuesday evenings. Competitive and friendly matches against other London clubs take place at weekends. The clubs own international championship takes place from May onwards during the week. As an affiliated member of national, and country organisations the club turns out representative teams and personal entries for national and county competitions.


Regarding playing kit, flat soled shoes must be worn on the green. Dress code is white above the waist and grey below. All white is worn for formal matches against other clubs. The club will provide bowls (woods) for new players trying out the sport, and most members are prepared to allow new players to borrow their own personal bowls until they find  set which suits them and which they can buy. A set of four bowls cost from £100-150 and can be sometimes bought secondhand for £30-50.


The club has its own bar, kitchen and dining facilities for after match meals, and for tea and drinks during the day. A bridge club has recently been established, and there is a pool table and a dart board for those who want indoor competition as well.


Membership applications  are considered by the board of management. The fee for first year membership is £70. Thereafter the annual membership fee is £125
